Classical music meets fire
The Festival des Forêts, dedicated to classical music in the heart of the countryside, traditionally brings its main event of the year to a spectacular close with a fireworks display. Celesta is the festival’s long-standing pyrotechnic partner and has been involved in every edition for over ten years. The challenge lies in creating a dialogue between a pyrotechnic display and a piece performed live, without either ever overshadowing the other.
Choreographing a shot to a symphonic score
The Celesta teams work on the score in advance to synchronise each effect with the orchestra’s nuances: crescendos, silences and soaring passages. This meticulous composition sets the fireworks display apart from a traditional fireworks display, where the music accompanies rather than directs the display.
A shooting exercise in a natural environment, under strict security
Setting off fireworks displays in or near a forest requires particular vigilance regarding the risk of fire, a detailed meteorological assessment and, at times, last-minute adjustments. Celesta-certified pyrotechnicians assess these factors right up until the final hours before the display.
Fireworks display as an extension of musical emotion
For a classical music festival, this format allows the evening to be brought to a spectacular close whilst remaining true to the artistic standards of the programme. It is a way of bringing musical heritage to life in a different way, through sound and light.
